Fighting In The Caves

Fighting In The Caves

A Poem by Inner Rain
"

A Shakespearean Sonnet

"
Ringing is the chapel bell on a cold and sinister night
So is the door 'twixt your two plenums
The first, the world you wish to escape into tonight
The second, the land poisoned with venom

You run to escape, you run to try to hide
But the way is unknown and the door behind you is disclosed
They are after you, inside of you the light of your lantern has died
And into the darkness your have plunged

The world you secluded yourself from has been one of hurt
Pain and guilty pleasures you have over and over again refused
A place where the fighting never ended, forever in the dirt
Where you have been beaten, battered, bartered and bruised

Paradise has denied you and forced to take a blow in the gut
There is no place to run, the way is shut

I'm not going to lie this was a little hard to read but I'm sure that is just because it does have that Shakespearean quality to it and Shakespeare is always hard for me to read. It does sound very beautiful though. I really love the language.
