Life

Life

A Poem by The Iron Horseman
"

Feeling reflective, musing on the meaning of life, the universe and everything. I don't think it's 42...

"

Life is like the lightning in a summer sky,

A vivid flash, a thunderclap, and then you die.

It's here, it's gone, you missed it, or did it pass you by?

It struck the tree right next to you and left you wondering why.

To the mountains we are but fireflies,

Winking in, then blinking out.

In their eternal consciousness,

We are a murmur, not a shout.

Ephemeral as the morning mist,

We are just passing through.

Don't worry about the things you missed,

Just take pleasure in the things you do.

Make the most of the years you live,

Give form to those dreams in your head,

Give those you love all you have to give,

Because you'll be a Long. Time. Dead.

Thank you, WF. Have a good weekend.
The older I get, the more I want to tell the younger generations exactly THIS! My Gawd, it can be hard to navigate regrets, with the years seeming to accelerate more & more! It's a balancing act & you captured & conveyed how that feels in a very relatable way. Great rhyme & rhythm. I always like it best when you write longer poems . . . (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Excellent message and I can't tell you how much I liked the theme of being so small int he scale of nature. Sometimes we forget out mortality and really how f*****g small we are in this universe. Excellent as always.

The old time clock sure goes faster the older you get.
Though only being 19 I really shouldn't notice it that much.
Man, what the hell just happened, I've suddenly got older. Don't write another poem like that, it's unsettling to us pups.
