“You okay?” Carlo

Asked, rushing to help Von up

Judas was at his side

The teens carried Von to

The nearest chair; “Shh,” Naye said.

 

A strobe of light

Beamed through the windows

Carlo flinched and wrapped his

Thick arms around Von’s chest,

Carrying the teen to the floor

 

The teens ducked down

Hiding in the shadows

Of the cold, cavernous

Lab�"holding his breath,

Carlo squeezed Von’s hand

 

Chills raced down his

Chest, reminding Carlo that

They were in forbidden

Territory�"the thrill

Von’s reaction helped too

 

Carlo smiled

As he sat face to face

With Von, his finger on

Von’s full lips, warning him

Not to breathe a syllable

 

The danger passed

And the teens slowly crept

To their feet, the guard was gone

“That was close,” Yasmine croaked.

“Where’s the tooth?” Judas panicked.

Ayah sat still

Fighting the urge to run

Screaming through the passage-

Ways; she knew she heard laughter

That was not a question

 

But as she sat

Curled up in a ball, she

Wondered if the laugh was

Wicked or teasing, and

That thought made her laugh out

  

Ayah threw her

Hand onto her mouth as

The frightened giggle leaped

From her lips; she rolled her eyes

And got up from the dark

 

She shook off the

Fear and proceeded to

Examine the cold, dark room

She pressed her phone on and

Used its beam to lead her

 

She was in the

Bio-lab where researchers

Kept the tanks filled with

Marine life and algae

Catching a clown fish dance

 

Ayah gasped when

A small wooden box flashed

Inside an empty tank

She knew what she wanted

To get a snap of

 

She slid across

The room, put her phone down,

And reached into the tank

The box was light; the wood

Soft and delicate�"ancient

 

She held it in

Her right hand, picked up her phone,

And took two snaps of it

“Who’s in here?” a guard barked.

Ayah dropped the box�"crumble
