Isn't life wonderful

Isn't life wonderful

A Poem by Jake Staffeld

There's always another
Catastrophe
But we just hum along
Ignore the collapse of buildings

We say
Lets watch the crazies as they
Sing and dance
For our own entertainment

Watch the son get high
And burn away the life
It's supposed to nourish
Isn't life wonderful?

We'll sing as waves crush
Your homes and lives
We feel so invincible
Just like the Sun

You missed paradise
By a million miles
So we ask you
Isn't life wonderful?

We'll laugh at
Sand soaked red
As we drink water
In front of the dehydrated children

It's not like we know better
We are Americans
So all we know is
How to ask you
Isn't life wonderful?

A casing of emotion and torment lay wasted to the hope of the new, well penned, great read.

This is a powerful and deep poem which rings true to me. We get fat while others suffer, not caring at all.. excellent point.

This is sensational - I especially love the first line of the third stanza :) Very easy to read and digest while holding such deep meaning... one word = powerful.

The myth of the USA. I hope few believe the Politicians and liars in charge. 40 million people on food stamps. 1 in 3 people receiving Government aide. Maybe better to dance and sing watching a Great country fall apart. I like this poem. I could add a few lines to it. A excellent poem.

For some reason (I have no idea why), "Isn't life wonderful?" sounds British...that made me smile. Otherwise, reading this made me angry...angry that life isn't fair, that stereotypes are so rampant and yet true more often than I'd like to think, mostly just angry in general. Good job of provoking emotion. I feel like it's an exaggeration of our nation, but you make an excellent point. We often forget how lucky we are.
