The Protector

The Protector

A Poem by Janet Ferolito
"

An 'Ode', really, for a neglected hero. An unexpected dedication of sorts. And a riddle for the reader.

"
Alone, he sits.  Out of the way of our day-to-day
Beautifully polished armor.  Color of STOP! EMERGENCY! DANGER!
Quiet and still, ever-ready for action
We hope we never need him, but he's always prepared if we do
His massive and powerful strength is with-held, awaiting purpose
A lone warrior, designed to create safety amid a fierce and deadly enemy.
Should he fight this battle for us, he's then tossed aside without ribbon or write-up
What happens to him once his duty is over?
Alone, he sits.  Out of the way of our day-to-day
