Midnight Memories

A Poem by JayG
"

For the woman who put up with me, and who made my life a constant joy. She's gone now, except she is, and always will, be with me.

Midnight Memories

Last night, late, when I slipped into bed--even though I knew you weren’t there

I reached out to touch you, and assure myself that you were safe, and close

To enjoy the peace that only your skin against mine could bring.

But the emptiness where you should be brought no comfort.

I should have closed my eyes, to be with you in dreams.

But as so often happens I found more comfort in thoughts of you than in slumber.

Memories presented themselves, one-by-one, of nights in shared embrace

Of you held close, in sleep and in waking--so soft, so gentle, and such a source of peace.

Sense-memory came, of your response to my lips and my touch.

To remind me of how you melted so softly against me that we were one in spirit.

In my recollection you turn to me, your bed-warmed skin against mine.

Peace and joy flood through me in what surely must be a dream:

Your skin so fiery that it must char flesh, yet, astoundingly, brings only contentment.

You are no dream, though. You are love, personified.

And you are missed…so deeply missed.

Because without you...I am incomplete.

A woman liked by everyone she met, she put up with me for 52 years, before being cruelly taken, from family, and from those, unmet, who would have loved her, too.

This was a beautiful piece and encapsulated a feeling of loss that lingers with you far after the moment of departure. I have not yet experienced this exact feeling in the way that you have felt, but I can understand it a little more thanks to your work. Thank you for sharing

Hi Jay,
Your lines what and how much love was I think she too felt same , the most of it how expressed but it is reality how you treated I haven't seen such a love to woman so far I hav seen epic stories but your story is more than eic in these days of where everywhere inhumanity prevails, I think our love when truly taken care of each other is divine, in such a way not that god doesn't f**k, but they definitely can't be without each other.

I hugged him and slept with another side my son we transitioned into 3 worlds whenever I go into deep sleep thinking I my breathing has slowed he used to makee wake up making sure I am breathing so that I tell him I am fine we just exchanged breath.

Any lovers would make them their love alive not just by getting out of responsibility but just giving what other wants in family too.

I want to write every experience as a chapter but I would keep myself when alzheimer's hit I keep on reading

These are very beautiful lines to showuch you adored her.

Atleast not smoke with little alcohol keep writing everything will be fine.

I really want a second kid for eshan so that he won't left alone after us and a kid to say our kid that we purely raised child for life.

JayG,
I've had that kind of love and loss. I know everyone has lost someone, but find a such a vast emptiness come from BEING LOVED, so hard and so deep that when you are no longer two glasses of water poured into one, it is as though your souls are entangled and all that is left is a phantom.

I think even with your eyes open she is in your dreams.
Being together with another for that long makes you one.
Sorry for your loss.

Very well written.
A bed that is to big without her, a life that is empty.

I will not coldly and meticulously pick apart your poesy.
I will say sometimes when met with terrible trauma as the loss of someone we love so much, we will build a wall of means to survive.
Loved your work and your thoughts. Thanks for sharing.

You describe your sentiments in a logical and somewhat passionate form, Jay. I'm sure she was all you've mentioned and more. Well done.
