always the last to arrive

always the last to arrive

A Poem by Jen

Sleep is a friend who rarely arrives on time
he only drifts by with empty promises,
and yet i hope
that this time he'll be there for me
This time, he said, he will be early
Yet here I lay,
mind racing,
list making,
email ranking,
agenda cranking
tomorrow is a breath away
and sleep has better things to do
"Focus" I say,
"You're in a moonlit room
the fan..
...is softly humming it's beehive songs"
relax turn off the brain, relax
And finally the soft, shuffling sounds of sleep's arrival
find me
Sleep is a friend who rarely arrives on time,
but is always welcomed,
and is (almost) always perfect in every way
