Past, Present, Future

Past, Present, Future

A Poem by Jennie Baron
"

This one received some positive response on another writers' site I use sometimes so I thought I'd run it by the Cafe group.

"

When I first met you,

Love was something as yet undefined

Yet something I knew would be,

Something I saw in your eyes.

When love began to grow within me

What pain and joy I discovered all at once!

Waiting only for the time I'd spend with you

But still uncertain if you felt the same.

Terrified that my love was unrequited,

Fearful of revealing it

Even when we knew each other well.

Then came that special night

When you said you loved me too

And with love’s first kiss you showed me.

And on one dizzy, starlit summer night

We knew our minds and bodies couldn’t wait

Till we expressed our love.

Now each day brings bad and good things to share

And each night brings new ways to show my love for you.

No matter how often we love,

It’s still magical as the first time.

Sometimes I wonder if I’ll always feel the way I do.

We’re both people who learn and grow"

Will we grow away from each other?

Does love die when it grows old,

Or does it just mature?

No matter what the future brings

I know we have something wonderful now.

I can't believe that anything would ever part us.

But if that should happen,

Let it not be with hatred and remorse.

Most people never know in a lifetime

All the love and laughter we've already shared.

Let's not take it for granted.

I may have mentioned this before but you bring a storyteller's element to your poetry...they don't always go well together, and it takes a skillful writer to merge the two, which you do seamlessly...and I think you've truly said it all here when it comes to romantic love and all the different emotions and sentiments that come with it...it is very much an emotional package deal, and you've laid it all out beautifully, gradually taking us from innocence to maturity...great work Jennie :)

I think, in this line : "I can't believe that anything would ever PART us" ~~~ You wanted to say this : "I can't believe that anything would ever APART us" .. Anyway, but i`m not sure about it. I really enjoyed reading this piece, your warm feelings of love are well expressed into the words of peace.

I like this beautiful line : "Wach day brings bad and good things to share"
Well Said!

Thank you very much, Stephen!
This is so sweet. A tender love between two people that never seems to burn out, no matter what comes across their paths. Well written!

I enjoyed this read.
You lead my mind to consider your questions defining what love is really like...
To me, love is like an estate garden. Different parts of the gardens grow and flourish in different seasons. Parts of the garden do die off and bead to be restored and refreshed. Other areas seem to always hold a power and majesty. Yet with attention, flowers of passion will blossom each year and each season will provide opportunities of expression.
To my mind, a mature "garden" is the greatest expression of love. Yet I do enjoy the new growth bedded in the warmth of the potting beds of the greenhouse.
Thank you for leading my mind down this path today.
A meaningful write!
