Versus

Versus

A Poem by Joey Martinez

You’re partaking in the journey of change but most don’t care about the steps you’re taking so now you’ve become estranged.
The distance between the past increases in range and those who want you to stay the same try to obtain you back into the person you refuse to be.
I find it hilarious how many claim to have their third eye open but can’t see.
They can’t envision the consequences of the future, only the pleasures of the past.
Those are the people you must leave behind before they drag you back into last place.
A new face is being born because you’re tired of the one that’s being worn.
Torn from foolish temptations that drew you into a plantation of thorn riddled roses.
It’s time to split apart like the Red Sea of Moses and make you’re own path.
It is you who will hold the last laugh while they grow jealous of the tracks you left behind.
Let them chase time while they wear the same face of defeat.
