Paterson New Jersey

Paterson New Jersey

A Poem by Joey Martinez

I know Paterson isn’t exactly a safe haven but don’t assume it’s filled with just crows and ravens.
A lot of doves lie in this town that continues to drown itself in the devils den.
I’ve met numerous souls who hold peace in their hearts while living in a street that tears itself apart.
There’s many individuals who choose to pursue their artistic desires in order to escape the fire of violence that ignites the town.
So don’t be alarmed when coming across a resident from the streets of Paterson New Jersey.
Yes, some people aren’t worthy of your time but there’s a beacon of light that shines in some of these residents who live in the darkness of crime.
This town can make or break.
Give and take.
But if we continue to create, we can populate this city of horror into hope.
Be a leader to the kids instead of leading their parents onto dope.
Paterson can be what it was once.
A city of history, a city of love.
