Brain damage

Brain damage

A Poem by Joey Martinez

You said you can handle the drugs but the drugs are handling you
Voices in your head start to be heard and the pain starts pouring through
What was once a mechanism to numb the suffering, to control the puncturing torment of love
Has now become a priority above your own health
All those emotions have fallen off the shelf and lie unorganized in your mind
Nothing makes sense anymore not even time
The gears that grind have been rusted by yourself and the fools who trusted you with with pills to desensitize the chills
Now you face a hill of problems that you’re unable to climb
You once obeyed the laws of your body but now you’re committing crimes
The bells of death will chime if you don’t save the enslaved soul you see in the reflection of the mirror
The future was once a clearer picture but now it’s become a distant drawing of uncertainty
But you can still see the reaper of death perfectly
