Rent

Rent

A Poem by Joey Martinez

I always assumed those who wore nothing but black had lacked the strength of emotion
But it turns out they seem the most stable while those with color are barely able to keep it together
Such a fool I was to believe that every smile was true
Adulthood has taught me it’s a mechanism used to weather the storm of instability blues
It’s an ability many seem to master in today’s age of rage
We all have free will indeed but some become trapped in this cage of greed
Wanting it all but when things fall short they can’t handle the failure and abort
Ignoring the success of trying while many are too scared to even make an attempt
We don’t live in this world we simply rent
Our eviction notice will come before our eyes so for the time being let’s stop with the lies
Us humans are so deceitful just to live a false peaceful life
A smile has now turned into a weapon aimed to fight
Fighting the truth
Fighting reality
