Wings of a Butterfly

 

Oh how I wish I could fly

With the wings of a butterfly.

I’d swoop and soar above the earth

I’d smile and shriek with mirth.

Oh to be alone up there in the blue

No one to tell me what to do.

I’d find a special cloud on which to sit

I’d stare down at the earth while I rest a little bit.

And if I should hear a voice beside me

I’ll look around to see who it could be.

And if it should be the lord, our God

I’d ask him why human life is so hard.

I’d ask him why he bothered creating me,

Why he thought me crying was funny to see.

I’d ask him why I cry so much

Ask him why I destroy everything I touch.

I’d ask him why he’s kept me alive,

Why my life feels like a lie.

I’d ask him how I could get through to Graham’s heart,

Ask him why I’m so alone when his soul and mine are apart.

I’d ask him to put in a special word for me

Ask him to pave the way for this to be,

Because even as I dream of flying,

Deep inside my heart is dying,

Because he feels so far away.

I want him; I need him; oh I hope he stays.

So for now I’ll hang up my butterfly wings

And go back to the man who is my everything!
