The Swing

The Swing

A Poem by Judy Ponceby

Previous Version
This is a previous version of The Swing.

Take a seat and push with your feet.
Feel the smooth, gliding motion.

Pump your legs hard and fast.
Hold tight to the chains.

As you rise higher, ever higher
Reach out and touch the clear blue sky.

Rush through the air, defy gravity.
Lean back against the forward movement

And feel the sheer
                             joy
                                   of
                                       being.

Today's technology kids might not understand such ancient fun, but boy, I sure do. When I was young, most every front yard tree had a swing in it.

In this lovely, child-like little work, Judy, the reader felt that "sheer joy of being" you.
What a precious gift you are to this, or any, website!

Ok, it's been a few years since i've been on a swing, but your words brought back all that freedom and joy of flying! Thank you for sharing that pure delight!

This is a fabulous piece! I'm usually just doing the pushing of others (Kids, you know how it goes) and I almost forget the pure thrill of such a simple thing as swinging. Thanks, because you just reminded me of that and just how easy it is to find joy in the little things.

Yesssssssssssssss .. what a wonderfully happy experience! Oh grief, i want to go find a swing this very moment. Thank you for reminding me how fantastic it can be on a swing it's almost like flight, a gasp a second.
