Across the Sky

Across the Sky

A Poem by SPINNING ON that dizzy edge

On a day like today

I hear your voice

in the sound

of the wind

and I feel

your fingers on

my face,

against my hair

and your

arms around me

holding me tight

as I'm little girl sad

in a big girl world

with rivers of tears

and a broken face

and empty arms

You can't replace

the broken heart

that beats inside...

Don't even try.

Your love across time

it gives me hope

you're with me now

in the smell from these lilacs

in the green of the grass

and this rain on the roof.

I sit all alone and

you reach for me

you'd take my hand

to lead the way...

but I'm not ready

no, I'm not done

You smile from the clouds

shake the rain from the sky

Whisper now so clear

you'll wait for me

On the side with the pot of gold -

across the sky of slate

when learning's complete

and my time has come.

Sounds like one of those moments when you go to a place that we need to touch sometimes. Just have to feel the loss and let it pass in it's own time, like waves washing over us. You have absolutely captured it here, sad piece but lovely images and the suggestion of someone waiting for you well that is a comforting thought, not a loss just a temporary parting.

Kath, this is a beautiful tribute. My grandmother is in the care of hospice. Her days are not long. I couldn't help but think of her as your poem unfolded. I could see these words on a card, craved on stone or perhaps, as they should, scribed with pen and ink on parchment. Wonderful work. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful poem, the love of a dead father is very well expressed here, wonderful loving memories, very sweet and endearing.

This was so sad and so beautiful at the same time. The beginning has a ghost like quality and the second has a long ago memory surfacing in a dream like fashion feeling. Wonderful write.

those days when the heart returns to innocence.. when all soul wants to do is feel like a child again
and what becomes of the brokenhearted..reaching for blue skies..with desires living to run through
fields of gold..to be able to grasp- hold on to love that spands eternal distances- for all one needs to do
is hold onto the winds of believing.. the wisps of certainty allowing freedom to bloom.. the way
rainbows reveal pots of gold... for when to dream is to capture the essence of faith beyond commitment
in ways remebering the best of times.. as well as those broken moments that create perspective..
this is beautifully written.. reminds me of neruda in form.. I really enjoyed reading this .. thanks

Beautiful lines!

The whole poem is full of love and sorrow but optimistic too. Great images.

Nice!
