Victims Living in the Shadows

A Poem by Kawaiikitty96
"

A poem I wrote about living life as a sibling of a disabled individual.

"
Victims Living in the Shadows
They are the victims,
 But we are as well
  Every single day
   Is a living hell

     They get all the attention
And we get ignored
Sometimes, we're acknowledged
But we long for more

We live in the shadows
   Even though we provide care
Over time, I've learned
We have multiple burdens to bear

Stop overlooking us
And don't turn up your nose
Take a walk in my shoes
    Try living with our woes

There are people who will do anything to get attention, and those who are simply easier to notice. And then there are the silent one's whose strength goes unnoticed, as does the pain they bear. I've always respected the later, because its those who see past our forced smiles and stiff shoulders who are real friends. Clever write.

My brother has epilepsy. I love him to death, but I completely relate to your poem.

Yes, I love my brother to death too, but his autism sends me over the edge sometimes. If you’re on.. read more
Clever and brave write. There are many who can relate to these words, but fear saying them aloud. Well done.
