Chapter Three

Chapter Three

A Chapter by Megan Ord

I woke to my ear piece beeping loud and high. I rolled over groggily and picked it up.

“This is Kayala.” I said tiredly.

“Kayala, there is a togra in Spain. We would leave it to someone else but everyone else can’t defeat it.” The reply came.

“What level is it?” I asked groaning as I got up and staggered to the bathroom.

“Level 5.”

“Aw god. Fine send the jet I’ll meet it at the park in 10 minutes.”

I clicked off and got ready. I put my leather top, trousers and knee high boots on.

I went down stairs.

“Where are you going?” my mother asked from the living room.

“Tim’s house. We’re revising for a test.” I said my usual lie.

“Okay. Don’t be back late.”

“Fine, bye.” I walked out the door. It was raining.

“Great. Just great.” I said to myself. I ran to the park. The jet was landing just as I got there. I ran up to it. The door and stairs lowered. I went up them. Inside it was really warm. Ethan, Tim and some other agents were sitting inside.

“Good morning Kayala. Please sit down.” Ethan said as the door closed behind me.

“Whatever.” I said as I sat down next to Tim. “Hello.”

“Hey. How you doing?” he asked me with a smile.

“The usual of course.” I said, “Tired, annoyed and hungry.”

“Here have these.” He said laughing as he handed me a packet of crisps.

“Thanks you’re a life saver.” I replied as I took the crisps.

“Nope I’m just being me.” He said smiling. “So where does your mam think you are?”

“Your house, revising for a test.” I said as I opened the crisps and ate them.

“Nice, at least I don’t have to worry about family.” Tim said sadly. Tim has been an orphan since he was 3. His family died in an explosion at the place they worked. Only Tim survived. Sadrince took him in and trained him. He’s now second best. I’m first of course.

“Hey mood killer, don’t ruin it. By the way did you know it’s a level five togra?” I joked.

“Yeah, I hope this one goes better this time. Remember the first one?”

“God yeah that was terrible. My sis got involved then. She was amazed at what we do. Sadly she can’t help out on this one.” I sighed.

“Yeah she was a good help.” Tim smiled.

“Ha-ha.” I laughed.

“Okay everyone, we will be arriving shortly. Get everything you need together. Kayala you ride with Tim. Everyone else in the van.” Ethan said loudly.

“What we riding?” I asked Tim.

“Motorbike.” Tim said simply.

“Good.”

“Okay people, touch down in one minuet.” Ethan’s booming voice shouted.

“Come one then let’s get to the bike.” Tim said as he stood up. I stood up and followed him. We went to the loading bay and there was a sleek black motorbike.

“Oh wow!” I gasped.

“Do you like it?” he asked smiling.

“Yeah!”

“It’s mine. My other one broke.” He said sheepishly. I was in love with it.

“How much horse power?”

“375 horse power.”

“Oh my god I am in love!”

“Ha-ha. You can have a go after this mission if you want.”

“Yes please!” I was so happy.

“Great!” He said smiling. He came up behind me. I turned to look at him. He stood right in front of me. He bent down and kissed me lightly on the lips. I put my arms around the back of his neck and kissed him back. He then pulled back and looked at me happily. I let go of him and he let go of me. He stepped back.

“Ahem,” he cleared his throat, “We should get ready to go.”

“Yes.” I said quietly. I kissed him quickly then he got on the bike and I got on the back. Everyone else climbed in to the truck. The bike bleeped as it got the coordinates. Tim turned the key and the bike purred to life. It was so smooth. I took hold of Tim’s t-shirt, with just enough fabric so as I could keep my balance. We didn’t wear helmets or any other protective gear. The loading bay door opened and we zoomed out, the truck just behind us. As we were driving through the town it was mainly silent. There were a lot of abandoned cars beside the road.

We zoomed through the streets until we reached the coordinates. There was nothing around. Tim killed the engine and we got off. The truck pulled up behind us and the other agents got out.

“Shh, no one speak.” Tim whispered. I went ahead and looked around. It was completely silent. Tim crept up beside me.

“Where is it?” he whispered.

“I don’t know stay alert you know what happened last time.” I whispered back, “I’ll scout ahead.” I crept slowly forward looking for signs of movement. I was quite far from the others now. I caught the movement out of the corner of my eye and just had enough time to duck before the car hit me. It had been thrown from one of the streets. I slowly rose facing the street. The other agents were moving to surround it. I saw eyes peering at me out of the darkness. I stepped closer to the street. The togra roared and ran towards me. I took out my gun and shot at it. At the last moment I rolled out of the way. It looked around for me. I shot at its back and it turned. It was about 16 foot and moved faster than anything else. It looked like a giant ant with a crocodile head and long slimy hands. It roared again. It sounded like a nuclear bomb going off. I had to cover my ears. The other agents started shooting at it. I recovered and shot at it. It started swiping at the others. Soon it was chaos; the bullets didn’t slow it down. I had to get in closer. I slowly inched forward, watching for any signs that it had seen me. I was so close and then it turned, spotted me and grabbed me. I struggled in its grip. It slammed me against the wall and stabbed me through the arm with one of its long, sharp pincers, pinning me to the wall. Its other pincer stabbed me through the shoulder. I gritted my teeth to stop me from crying out. I looked down; there was a car beneath me. I reached into my pocket with my right arm and grasped the Injection. I pulled it out, took the lid off with my teeth and jabbed in the togras’ neck. It screeched and let go of me. I fell on to the car and rolled off. The glass from the cars smashed window cut my leg. I looked up. The togra was writhing with pain. I saw Tim running towards me.

“Kayala are you all right?” he said worriedly.

“Do I look like I'm all right?” I said sarcastically while trying to get up.

“Oh, sorry. Do you want some help?” he said while offering a hand.

“Yes.” I grabbed his hand and he pulled me up. I leaned on him as we ran, well stumbled, for cover. We sheltered behind a building as the togra exploded. We came out and slowly walked to the truck. My vision was going blurred. I collapsed before we got there.
