Elements of Life

A Poem by KenCarswell

Elements of Life

We have so much but what do we truly need,
To lose it all, be left with nothing
Alone and unprotected
Like a flower sprouting from a seed.

Everyone takes things for granted,
Natural selfishness and a constant need for more,
When you're that seed not intentionally planted
Everyday is a fight down to the core.

Exposed to the elements with no protection around,
Terrified and lonely but still holding strong,
You wait for the day your stem breaks through the ground,
Though staying strong is only a question of "For how long?"
