Memories

A Poem by Meridian

I can see your face like it was yesterday
and wonder if you envision mine as clearly.
My life has changed 180 degrees
from when you last held me dearly.
I imagine where you are at this very instant.
My heart hopes you are smiling, laughing even,
recalling fond remembrances of your children, of your wife,
content in the bliss of your matured life.
I want to know, but know I never will.
Your image on the horizon
has fallen below the arc of that hill
made of distance and time.
I do not know you now,
but these memories will be forever mine.
So, as I close my eyes and revisit that place
of skin I can touch and kisses I can taste,
I enjoy the memories that your presence has graced,
immune to the ravages of age and the chill of space.

I've been thinking about the past a lot recently, and one of the things I ponder are some old flames, wondering, much as you have written here, how they might be doing, how they look, and if they're happy. You're lovely poem reminds me of that. Very well done.
