Losing Yourself

Losing Yourself

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward

When your head is just above water
You can feel the waves lapping against your
Face
Your body's tired
Under
Under
And you tell yourself you'll come up for
Air
Sinking deeper
And darker
The pressure is
Suffocating.
The water has its tight grip
Around your neck
And you remember
That you should've come up for air
A long time ago.

I feel like I can relate to a lot of your writing, you do a really good job of writing about feelings and hardships. I can tell you have had some struggles. I hope writing has helped you through. Keep it up :)

Thank you Carly, & for the reviews. All lovely words.
First, let me suggest that the title might be "Losing Yourself" (with a single "o")???

I really like this description of how it feels when life is insurmountable. I felt this way after neck surgery left me unable to walk & it took me two years to walk again, & even then, not for very long each day. Just trying to do the most ordinary things was almost too much every day. You've captured this feeling, using simple imagery, rather than telling a dramatic story about it. Nice job!

Very cleverly done! This is how we do things in our life, we put ourselves in difficult situations without knowing the different aspects of it and when we do not see a way out then we realize "oh we should have think about it before entering here"... Very well thought out piece, and you left a thought to think here for the reader...

Very true, there is always good in everything no matter how bad the situation may seem...
your words are so real , you can describe so much with so little words

Well, I'm heading off on a scuba diving trip next week... I hope the read was not prophetic. Ha.
A great capture of how it feels to loose ones grasp of their own person...
