"I'll have a coffee please,"

"I'll have a coffee please,"

A Poem by Kq334

"I'll have a coffee please,"
two sugars and milk
Said the man dressed in rags,
very meekly built.

He sat near the window
gazing out at the sky;
His conscious was clear,
he hadn't told a single lie.

His hands rubbed together
as he tried to rid the cold.
His beard was long and grey,
his face tired and old.

I brought him his drink
without moving, he glanced up.
His smile warmed the room
and he took the cup.

I studied him from afar
careful not to pry.
His happiness was palpable,
tears trickled from his eyes.

But it wasn't the coffee
that sprouted his smile,
The happiness walked up to him:
a sunshine-faced child.

She had handed him a picture
"I drew this for you"
A drink could warm his body,
but for once, his heart was happy too.
