Faith

Faith

A Poem by Lathen Griffiths

On windy days when trees are blowing,
prepared to lose a limb,

I walk beneath the largest bough and wonder
with a whim,

if it were to fall right now, my chances would be slim,

I carry on regardless, humming a Christian hymn,

yet if that bough should really break my ending would be grim,

hence, I find I’m trembling as my fears begin to swim,

I say a little prayer and ask, “please help me cherubim”

and when they fail to answer me,

I skirt around the rim.

love the ending...yes, faith...we have to have it...there is a plan for us....

could be tomorrow, could be a long time from now....we might as well walk under the limb...
what is meant to be is meant to be.
and the tree and we might be stronger than we think.

Life travels through, leading us down many a path, at times we must take chances and have faith that God will be beside in every road we travel. ;-] Nice write.

Thank you Weeping Willow,

Lathen
I enjoyed the read. I believe that faith, like love, is not something that alters to whim. It is not put off by conditions or circumstance. If it is, then it cannot be what its name proclaims it to be. Paul said in Hebrews 11:1 that faith is the substance of things hoped for and "Evidence of things unseen." If we, therefore have evidence by faith then doubt no longer resides. Such is true, also of love. True love has no fear because it has no expectation and nothing to lose. The apostle John said, "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." 1 John 4:18 Even our greatest English poet and playwright, Shakespeare wrote in Sonnet 116, "Love is not love/Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove./O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;/It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken./Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;/Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,/
But bears it out even to the edge of doom./If this be error and upon me proved,/
I never writ, nor no man ever loved." And I believe the same to be true of faith. Your poem seems to represent doubt more than faith. But what did the boy's father say to Christ when He cast demons out of his son? "Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:24 God understands our doubt but He has never been shy about proving His Being or His intent towards us because "God is love". 1st John 4:16 If we cannot know or find God in love, it is only because of fear and doubt. But the flesh cannot be made perfect since, "All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God." Romans 3:23 However the soul can be made perfect through God. "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6" So, if our iniquity is no longer our own burden but the burden of God, why do so many chose to carry it on their own shoulders? We must trust in Him who gave His life for us so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. For this reason Christ came into the world. Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal, and to kill, and destroy but I am come so they might have life, and have it more abundantly." John 10:10 I only put these scriptures here so you can read them with your own eyes in hopes your fears may be relieved and your doubt erased. And in that, you may find comfort and peace for your soul. Blessings of peace, love, light and understanding.

Thank you Fabian,

Kind regards,

You know on windy days, I really keep away from trees. I have seen so many over the years that have been uprooted in stormy weather. Sadly there have been cases where people have been killed by them. I don't take any chances and I've a lousy voice so no hymns from me or prayers either. I keep my distance :) Enjoyable and entertaining Lathe.

Yah, tempt not the Lord thy God. Such is my philosophy. I was very careful where I rode, especially at night. Even Mother Mary's patience has a limit. Nicely done, Sir.

My pleasure!
Rhyming poetry is tricky because it sometimes feels forced.
Nevertheless, it was wise not to leave fate to the heavens
