I loved him as the man

strong and well

going about life 

just fine by himself.

I loved him as the boy

young and stealth

too afraid to admit

that he needed some help.

men can be such little boys...at times...too stubborn to ask for help...so self-reliant...
which can be admired...but never asking for help when needed, there is just a shake of the head...
couples need to rely on each other, can not be one sided.

Have to agree with Jacob, men can be little boys with their toys most of the time. My first husband was looking for a mother to wait on him hand and foot. My second husband is a man in all sense, but he still needs a boat to play with :) Neither of them discuss their feelings, and at times they needed to. Stiff upper lip and all that. Look where you took me.

I have picked up on this a few times recently, men who are still childish look for a mother in their partner - someone to look after them, soothe them , nurse their egos and heal their wounds. Nothing wrong with that in a balanced, healthy relationship - I think that we all need nurturing to some degree in our relationships, but when the balance is off it can be unhealthy.
