A Shadowed Mind

A Shadowed Mind

A Poem by Laura Kate

through the forest of consience

a barricade of thoughts, rope entwined

branches catch on quickly, linking their

overbearing trees casting darkness

on our minds, roots multiplying weighing

heavy, digging in, aching to penetrate the

skull -

soul

searching,

self

seeking

something from the outside,  a solution to sever

webbed vines, leaves looking up towards the light

forging new ways out, dirty twigs dragged through

to the light, to the air above.

Soil

un-shadowed

brain

un-burdened

warmth,

growth,

freedom.

as trees have roots that go deep and make the tree secured to stand tall and strong...if we find inner peace, the same could be said for humans...soul searching, finding knowledge...even with those strong roots, we have the freedom to roam, knowing we always have something to come back to..something strong.

This feels like a tremendous weight around the shoulders, a guilt not shared, not ever.
Seeking solace in a place of peace, finally finding the freedom to move on.
I think we all end up in this place at times, maybe just the human way of balancing what see as life.

much can be seen in the obscurations and when they come into true illumination and it's character is no longer shadowed, the freeing can be a resplendent affair... that what i see pulling back the leaves of your verse

Thank you for sharing your insight Robert
What I read here, Laura, is one's struggle with guilt, and once unbound, a freedom and light that's more than uplifting. Our conscience is a weight but one that keeps us in balance. Another original, creative work from you.
