How To Mend A Broken Heart

How To Mend A Broken Heart

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Tear up all of the photos you ever took together

And don’t think about how happy you were in them

Throw away all the gifts he ever bought you

And that jacket of his that you still cuddle up to on the coldest nights

Eat an entire tub of Ben & Jerry’s to yourself

And don’t be sad that he isn’t there to remind you how many calories are in it

Pluck petals off a flower, but instead of “He loves me… He loves me not” say “I am over him”

Delete his number from your phone

Text that cute guy who keeps asking you out

Watch all your favourite girly films that he never let you watch when you were with each other

And snap all of the action films that he bored you to death with

When Valentine’s Day comes around

Spend time with your best friend who wiped your tears away when he left you

Realize that you are better off without him

And when he calls you because he just realized that he made the worst mistake of his life

Say, “I have myself to love now” and hang up the phone.

I have been on the other side of this. I have made that mistake. Not intentionally malicious, but a mistake still. I have been that person with the realization. The last line is chilling.

I love this piece !! I really just love you're writing! Really good job with this one ! If every girl had this to read after a break up i feel like they would pick themselves up a lot quicker than usual .
