Stillborn

Stillborn

A Poem by Laura Harrison

It was time.

For 9 months I had carried you around in my stomach;

I had cooed over adorable dresses and booties and pored over ‘Parenting for Dummies’,

Chosen the essential accessories and converted the guest bedroom into a nursery,

All ready for your arrival.

Now it was time for you to be brought into this world

Time for you to start your exhilarating journey on this crazy and wonderful planet.

As I lay in the hospital bed I tried to ignore the excruciating pain and “just kept pushing” as the midwife told me.

Because very soon, the agony would be worth it-

I would get to see your sweet, angelic face and hold your tiny, delicate body in my arms,

I would get to hear that high-pitched wail that would mean you were finally alive…

But, you didn’t cry.

A heart breaking write. I know how it feels as I saw one of my distant cousin sister becoming almost mad.

Very sad, and emotional write, I cant really relate to it, because i don't have or want kids. Although this is truly a heartbreaking piece, that really touches the readers.
Very well written :)

oh i see :) thats nice
Very well wrote with emotion and energy that starts with hope and ends in sadness with despair over such a loss that may be forever in the background of the mind of a new mother. She is a mother, but without her child to hold close and love with a nurturing touch.

This one brought tears to my eyes and I could feel how excited you were only til the end, which turned into a black cloud. Losing a child through being still born, miscarriage, or any other way is the hardest thing to go through. We will never forget our precious babies and they will always be in our hearts. My little one, would have been turning 3 soon. I share your grief, only not in the same way. If you ever need to talk, I am around a lot. Beautiful write. xo Winter

Damn. As soon as I read "All ready for your arrival", I feared you were going to end it as you did, but knowledge did not temper the impact. Losing a love before you even had the chance to hear its voice... The thought is crushing, devastating. A very powerful poem. :)
