Climbing Stares

Every misstep I take; Elevate me.

Step by step 

We're climbing this social ladder 

Except the stares are shallow; 

With one look, you could crumble 

And plummet down to that first step 

It's the first stare that matters 

You are master of your reflection 

Thick skin is developed when 

You've weathered the reality of 

The initial step 

You're not alone, though 

Those stares are steep 

But not damaging 

Only you know your own depth 

Though naked, never transparent; 

They can't see through you 

They can't see the hand that's reached inside already 

And pulled out the tools needed 

To coat such nakedness 

You don't dodge or skip 

You just take it slow 

Step by step 

Escorted by kind rail 

However, you're stronger; 

Push on. 

Let go.

You never know who is watching as you climb the slippery social ladder - waiting to ponce and take your place
There comes a time when you reach a point social level is negated we all just get the same treatment when you give up work > You cant do that AT YOUR AGE _ I always ask WHY NOT?

This was quiet good to read. On an editorial note: Do you mean "stairs" instead of "stares"? At first I thought it might be some subtle wordplay but reading on I began to doubt that was the case. At any rate, I enjoyed the read. Bless.

It’s clever to use “stares” instead of “stairs” and you wove this idea into your message with wit & intrigue. I follow what you’re saying & I know it’s true for many people, but I just feel sad that it even matters enuf to write a pep talk poem about it. Sadly, I agree. However, since we do live in times such as these, then I do hope that this resonated with someone. So very deep and true- jealousy is sad and people can kill you with one stare- if looks could kill- sometimes unless we push on and believe in ourselves nobody else will- sometimes it’s about if you are liked or fit in or not- I don’t do that I don’t kiss a*s- great words- keep on keeping on🌹
