Know Who You Are

Know Who You Are

A Poem by Legacy
"

Is this a possibility... in Knowing Who We Are, do you think we should take the time to understand others, before investing in our own?

"

Understanding who we are?

As a young child I was faced with many circumstances which stretched ‘who I was’ at an age when baseball, snowballs and candy should have consumed me.

How are we to assist, teach or even lend a hand to another or for that matter given the right when we truly do not understand who we are?

Do we lend an ear?  Or just keep Talking?

Understanding Who We Are, could this expose us for who we truly are?

The future moves into the past…

Know Who You Are

Facing our Fears – Is all, but a mirror image

One we refuse to see - one we refuse to acknowledge?

I claim no acceptance in fostering appreciation

Encompassing emotions, other than my own

Elapsed time, this I can-not proclaim.

Guilty I am… Immersing ‘my being’ in the past

The lifting of boundaries (through Love and Understanding)

Offered in abundance… “This eludes me.”

Where have we lost such pluralisms in life?

Why do we wish to ex-change the reflections of who we are?

Without values we have no foundation

Our future should not, and must not, be transmogrified

(Because of our past)

Eyes of first impressions lost in judgment

Casting of shadows, tossing blame

Why must we quench our thirst from the well of hatred?

Who are we to judge without knowledge, or out of fear?

Thoughts become nothing more than reflections
History will - recall voices within our diverse past

When we really speak the words ‘Thank You’ ‘I Love You’ ‘I ‘Appreciate You’ ‘I am Truly Sorry’ are they really filled with the meanings they deserve?

A message conveyed or perhaps ‘lesson to be learned’

Looking back – moving forward

Beyond Cognition, reflections now dissolved

 Image of another becomes clear

I must vanish to…

Know Who {You} Are…

Wow, it leaves me thinking of a lot of questions I have to ask myself. And you're right, why are we still so teribly prejudice, always angry and upset over the silliest little things. And I totally agree with Demyra there that sometimes we say things like I love you without even thinking it. I know I do it all the time, mostly to friends and family but I say it so that, should anything ( Goddess Forbid) happen to either of us, they know that they were loved.

Good job!
well...
What is the reason you don't test your own metaphor....?
You interpret ideal thinking in a row.
If you make a real situation from your ideal emotion......
I will feel so good...

... a deeply reflected piece which counters the solipsism of Know Thyself for the Pantheism of Also Know All Others ... it may be said that both of these perspectives are in a balance as your Poem alludes ... I found your introductory message to be a strong lead in to the Poetry, as well! ... and justice for all when Truth lives in your Heart!

Very nice use of language here, Legacy! This piece asks some really deep questions that blow the door off of self-examination... every element of this piece works together (I see a lot of cyclical reasoning), and it is perfectly summed up by the title. Nice!

Excellent write!

There's a lesson to be learned here in what you write by everyone. Too often, we judge one another, including entire cultures, without true knowledge of that person or culture. We must know our own self before we can care for, appreciate or understand anyone else. Everyone's life has value. Keep writing!

We are all our own critics; sometimes favorable and at others not.
Our 'foundations' are our pasts.
Love and dedication are the only transcendants.
It is in alligning myself with something greater than the individual me
that I can truly know who I am; what I'm capable of; and what I desire.
Someone said talk is cheap but I can't agree.
Communication is the sea around each of our individual land masses that we can use to isolate or to invite; and as you say much of communication is listening.
We all need to become aware of our porousness; fighting this is energy and time wasted.
However, can one ever truly vanish, even after death our legacies live on.

to often do we vanish into who others think we are. Bending and forming into what pleases others, who never really care about who we really are. We judge, we care on, we don't look at people as people. Why do we never wonder... who is this person in front of me? It's all just empty conversations and pointless banters. Well written, very poignant. Know thy self!

Amazing. Your writing is thought provoking--and inspirational, all at the same time. I'm impressed.

Truly eye-opening. We all are guilty of passing judgment without knowing the person and of speaking "the words" but not really feeling what they convey. I am, by nature, very guarded but I am working hard to change that by liking myself and in turn, this has helped me to be more understanding of others. This work is a wake up call and should be heard.

Not only must one know themselves to understand other you must in turn love yourself to be able to truly love and cherish others. We all should strive to leave a positive legacy behind us, unfortunately most of the folks I see are only leaving a disastrous mess in their wake. Everyday everyone should think about their actions, wondering what those around us will think and do because of what they have seen us say and do. I hope we all decide to leave a positive legacy behind, I know I make my share of mistakes walking through this world, but over all I like to think I have made more good choices than bad. Thank you for sharing your words with us and having the right and positive attitude we all should share.
