If a Bumblebee Can Fly, Why Can't I?

If a Bumblebee Can Fly, Why Can't I?

A Poem by Legion
"

Something goofy I just thought of from a pig's perspective on flight.

"

If a Bumblebee Can Fly, Why Can't I?

If a bumblebee can fly,

I must question why can't I?

Will I find success or die

If I should give it a try?

Pursuing the idyllic dream,

A chance at one clandestine scheme,

I run and with a mighty jump

Launch, through the air, this porcine rump.

For a moment of pure exhiliration

I become one with the avian nation.

But gravity, I find, is no friend of mine

And reality proves that this portly swine

Returns heavily with such a squishy thud

And lands on his dignity, rump in the mud.

Oh, Mr. Bumblebee

Won't you please, please tell me

All the secrets of your success

And stop laughing at my distress?

Very cute message, though I sort of get the feeling that you tried too hard to make it rhyme and in some places it didn't flow as nicely as other places. But that's just me, and I like to feel a certain rhythm when I read.

I absolutely enjoyed the little story that it told though. Nice job!

Nice poem, but maybe a little over written. Reminds me of some songs from the sound track of Juno. Good write-Danny

Well, if happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow then I don't see why you can't join a commune of bees? I don't know about falling on your rump with a thud, but they may not take too kindly to the invasion and you could end up a pincushion...that would cure your wishful thinking...
Humorous and deep in many ways, with a particularly good message of freedom.
Helen :-)

Perhaps it is because I am out in left field bumbling about and trying to avoid the particular bee I unintentionally disturbed, but I cannot help read more into this beyond the humor of it. For why should it just be us humans that sit around wondering and pondering about just how we are going to manage to keep up with our good neighbors the Joneses, being able to have and to do all they are able to do that we are unable to do. How arrogant of us to think that there may not be some relatively happy pig out there that just happens to catch sight of the flight of a bumblebee... thus wondering if he can fly as well. Yes, this piece is a slap in the face for all humankind - a wake up call for us - and a triumphant depiction of the hopes and dreams of a pig only wishing he could fly... well done.

Haha, that's great. Bumblebees suddenly don't seem so innocent anymore.
