Feel it

Feel it

A Poem by Riv

Dark chains fall from the room.
Electric shocks pull on chords.
With a single eye red as blood.
When will the time be up.

Suffering in image,
On a global scale.
The body cannot hold,
But it can withstand.

Stiffen up in his face.
Stop calm and get ready to taste.
The knife as it cuts down my face.
Simply ecstatic, not my case.

There's spiders on the wall,
I think.
Clocks ticking time away,
Down the hall.

So when will the time be up.
When will I escape.
When will I see it again.
The light, I feel it.

Author's Note

Riv
A short story I wrote had a woman held captive. So I wrote a poem of her thoughts during the moments she was being tortured.

When I first started to read the poem my eyes were inadvertently diverted to 7 lines below. "The body cannot hold, but it can withstand." That line is loaded with a statement so strong I'm surprised Presidential candidates have not offered to buy the verse from you. And I mean that in a good way. Your writing has really stepped up lately, you seem to be writing with a new enjoyment, a new perspective. I'm always glad to see that in young writers. You should be proud of your work. take care...dan

I see a person
overcome by grief
Searching for a way to feel again
A prisoner of the past
of her ownself

Dark and sad. You put into words a tragic event that has happened to a heartbreaking countless amount of women, children, and even men. A very sad reality that unfortunately exists. A well written eye opening piece! You shared the voice of strength of those that never did see the light again. The light of day I mean.

A very powerful poem. Create place of solitude and need to find escape.
"There's spiders on the wall,
I think.
Clocks ticking time away,
Down the hall. "
The above lines were my favorite. Things we can see when time is against us. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

This was about a 8"x6" word painting of this woman's thoughts while being tortured. It would have been a larger painting, had there been any mention of tears or screams or even the flow of blood.
