{airport cafe}

{airport cafe}

A Poem by living lavender
"

now boarding

"
people walk without a care
in their own worlds
yet with no shame
stare at you and compare

they view you from far
searching your body. your walk. your face
setting the bar high
attempting to find one thing out of place

don’t trip. don’t trip.
don’t trip.
keep my pace
God forbid I fall on my face

whatever they want to see
i can not change now
i am content with what is me
so watch as i take a bow

LL,
Ha... I spent several hours in airports yesterday... GUILTY! Well, not really, I just stared at the attractive ones, thinking, "Wow, how attractive!" But I'm old and constantly aware of how much it hurts to pay fifteen dollars for a three dollar hamburger at an airport cafe... while my whole body hurts from having to traverse an airport with more square miles than the town I live in...
Isn't it funny how images from simple experiences can lead down such important rabbit holes? Nice.

It really feels as though to exist is to be judged anymore. If I leave my house, will I accidentally become the next TikTok trend by sneezing too loud? I love the conclusion presented here, as well as the rhythm of the third stanza.

This stands up in any places not just the airport cafe. I find myself saying please don't walk into a tree. Then say whatever. If I walk into a tree I will own it. Lovely write and read.

I can give a critique - really I can and have ...BUT I prefer to show my perception of your thoughts so YOU know my understanding of your expressed thoughts. Being judged for an appearance, or being nervous about how I come across to people that haven't a clue about the realities of my existence - hurts. Shame is taught and learned NOT a natural talent. Takes time and living to gain the confidence to be yourself.

Strangely inconsistent thoughts presented. Anxious not to trip in front of people and make a fool of oneself and then not giving a s**t what people think in the next stanza? One is either anxious or carefree. Can't be both. People stare. Fact of life. Simplistic poem, all in all.

flaws ae beautiful, mistakes are human....I would rather hold hands with a human than with a perception of perfect.

amen to this. such truth held within these words.

When I tried to hide away from the judgemental stares of strangers who set the bar too high, I found myself looking in the mirror, finding the same culprit. People are going to think what they think, and it can be difficult not to care. But if you fell on your face, I know a few people would come running. Myself included.

Lovely poem, Lav. I'm always happy to see more of your work :)
