Comfort

Comfort

A Poem by Laura Kate

Never afraid of the dark when alone

ghosts are my friends and demons I know

they follow me around as if I’m their home,

saying they've got nowhere else to go

I’ve nowhere else either

so we sit and we talk

reminiscing the good times

the bad ones, them all

so many we've clueless

as to where to start

what’s done? what's unfinished?

what still hurts the heart?

sharing drinks now we’re slurring

‘thank you all’ I declare

‘for with you - pain, misery

and fear I have shared’

‘no one else sees it,

I'm not sure they care

but right by my side you have

always been there’

arms gathered round me

cuddled up all as one

‘without you’ they replied

‘we would all be gone’.

dearest Laura Kate.. in the Misty Moments we can recall the thrill of it all...
Our friends "the ghosts" were there and know that our Wise Creator knows our Heart. I Believe in the Super Natural... and as always... read your thoughts. Divinely, Pat

A heartfelt write. Some of our demons are not so bad, I guess. Perspective is the thing. We all have our demons, even if some people will never freely admit it.

I read this again, and am reminded how great this write is and how much I love it. It is sad when "our demons" seem to be our best friends, but it is the way of it sometimes. Do we continue to keep them alive by holding them so close? If we didn't would they vanish? So profound and utterly brilliant.

I have just come back to Writers Cafe after some time and looking at this again after several months.. read more
in reading my thoughts are divided ... cuddling up to darkness is, in my understanding, not a wise thing to do; but accepting our pain and fears .... facing them head on with courage we don't think we have .. will certainly cause them to fade and dissolve on their own .. love your closing .. we keep all those things and the anxiety that comes with them alive by hiding them .. we give them power over us .. power they do not have of themselves ... i feel the struggle in this poem .. and the beauty of its resolution ... keeping it real Laura Kate ... your keeping it real ;)

Thank you for your review!
Wonderful poem, Laura, and very relatable in its expression. I'm often haunted by ghosts who live in my memories. Thinking of them often makes me smile. And there are times I find myself talking to them as well. It's my way of keeping the memories of them alive. Thank you for sharing your work.
