solo adventure

solo adventure

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by carol schiff "in a world of her own"

in the dreary domain
of a rainy sunday
i trample a path traveled ten times
     and then ten times
          or perhaps more
as my creaky cranky joints complain
               suddenly
                    just to escape it all
my mind swims off in a puddle
to some destination secret to even me
nowhere near the realm of reality
and here i sit
stagnant in sunday’s existence
impatiently waiting
for my mind to impart tales
of its solo adventure

I love the idea of "a rainy Sunday" and the imaginative trampling of paths back and forth to create adventures. I like the image of your mind wandering away as you sit and patiently wait for it to come back with stories to tell. As if it can be the only one to reach those secret destinations. Our imaginations often go to places that we couldn't possibly reach, like dreams that can't be understood in the waking world. I really love the images you create with your well-chosen words!

Thanks for stopping by, Chris. Lydi**
dear Lydi... your art is cool as an Autumn
breath on a Sunday afternoon.
"a destination secret to even me"
is one of my favorite places to be.
A solo adventure can bring you
lovely scenery of colors and sounds of
Monet and Mozart. Peace and love...

great image. we all need to escape sometimes, nothing beats the fantasy world of a good day-dream and where would we poets be if we couldn't dream. fantastic.

Thank you very much for this review....yes, we all need to escape reality now and then. Lydi***
I do some of the best travelling sitting down in my pajamas on a sleepy Sunday afternoon. Alone time never-ever scares me. Those times can mend and heal better than any old happy pill ever could. Love this piece, Lydi. Angi~

One need not be lonely just because one is alone! Thank you very much, Angi. Lydi**
You will pardon me when I say this is a lovely invocation of feelings on Sunday with just a few more evocative feelings thrown into the recipe.

Oh, okay....I speak American, not English! :)
Those moments when we can close out the world and lose ourselves in our own tales are beautiful respites from the gloom and the creaks we're so aware of otherwise. I like the sentiment in this piece because I can relate to it.
