i taste the thunder

i taste the thunder

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork courtesy of arwen arts

a soliloquy of innocence woven through decadence

lulls me this afternoon

i taste the thunder

a mingling of tears and honey

a blending of cacophony and harmony

               a delicacy known to few

a sort of lullaby singing to my blind heart

i am willing to listen

but refuse to remember only darkness

while dismissing the light

too many feel the pain of heartbreak more

than they originally felt the love

too many swim through the quicksand of grief

refusing a lifeline when it is thrown

pain fills the vacuum refusing entrance to pleasure

i taste the thunder

savoring its exotic flavor

What "muscle" would you build without the exercise of real life living. What understanding would you have of anything but your own selfish pleasure without the experience of pain and sorrow. Where would be the compassion and love in your heart for others? You are so wise :)

I always thought of the storms nature brings as a start of something new, and the stronger the storm the more awakening of life you would feel with it. I love the image of seeing the light through the dark.

If you only see the dim of a storm, you'll never feel the birth of happiness

You are so wise, Bill. Thank you very much. Lydi**
I am reminded, literally and metaphorically, of both enjoying the feel and texture of the storm, of the pain, of the trials and tribulations of life -- without suffering, there really is no joy, because every moment would be the same. You captured this beautifully with this piece.

You are so right....those who have a very easy life never appreciate the good times. Thank you, KL... read more
Lyd, I had to re-read and re-read and travel back to the past when the pain in my heart overtook the joy. we tend to look more at the pain and not the joy. I would echo the words of steve covey in the book the 7 habits that we need to look at the bigger picture

it's hard to refuse the bad, when we are pressured and cornered - hard to see the big picture when our heads are buried in sand - it is very important to keep the balance in seeing things, faithful to hope with just enough room for pain, so we can learn from our mistakes and grow - it is important to lay down the sword and move on with life

regards,
steph

dear Lydi, a mingling of tears and honey...
a blending of cacophony and harmony...
I suppose euphony will eventually appear in
our sky of infinite possibilities.
A very emotional poem of sounds and feelings
that portray loss that surrounds our world, exquisitely
painted with brushes of thunder. truly, Pat

We know all too well life is filled with good and bad. We must remember the good even on the darkes.. read more
i really like this piece...and the truth behind it...it is hard to swim in quicksand...especially when we never acknowledge the clear waters that run beside the quicksand...
i love to see this idea of remembering the good as well as the bad.
