it is morning

it is morning

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by korpita

it is morning

the ocean wears a dress of fire

its lace border of foam undulates as i watch

rosy light washes over the world

the vibrant colors of life feed me

reborn with the day

i am made of light

oh, and my parents genes of course

on a day as bright as this one

there must only be good thoughts

so why do my cheekbones feel my mother’s smile

even as my father’s blue eyes fill with tears

Unfortunately I am more a mourning person than a morning person and a bad griever as a general rule. However, I have noticed over the years that my own diurnal variation often seems to be influenced by my initial or waking thoughts.

I have such lovely memories of so many loved and dear ones that I really should lean more towards euphoria, but dont....Hence some of my early & more morbid stuff.

Now then, having got all that off my chest, I must say that this is another one of those that has left me with a lump in my throat so late in the day. So I just cant win, can I............... A true delight to read and empathise alongside with .....N

dear Lydi🦋... I can only dream of sitting by the sea... wondering why the sea wears a dress of fire... how appropriate.., my mother's smile... my fathers tears... it all seems clear..,
we ponder the change a day can bring... to challenge each new day and find a way where foam is flowers embracing a new day. truly, Pat

Yes... lots of memories to cherish... now resting in eternity... truly, Pat
I just think it's the sea.
Every feeling, every memory is in there.
It's why we can just sit and watch it all day.
Hypnotising in a good way.

Ironic, how even on the sunniest of days, sadness touches one, unexpectedly. Perhaps, its the absence of those who loved us most selflessly. Your words build up like a wave to crash on the shore, bringing home with them the sorrow felt. The picture is beautiful too.

it is morning Lydi** Good morning from the reader's eye. Glad to see, the way you twisted the prose in last two lines. Lydi** that's your hallmark.
