A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by steve henderson

what is as fascinating as yearning?
perhaps you are now warmed by the fire started inside
entwined in silken scarves of metaphoric mastery
our tongues will dance
turning first cheeks, then chest
cotton candy pink
but that amorous heat will cool
my welcoming arms will be but a memory
of a half forgotten tale
just as the summer sun fades when autumn leaves fall
another will capture your thoughts
because truly, my love
what is as captivating as desire?

summer may fade into autumn, and autumn fade into winter, but your pen yearns for creativity and a desire to write poetry, in the same way as I yearn to see one of your poems and desire to devour the words you place on the page and always so very 'nice'... just as winter desires to be spring.... oh, and no metaphors were harmed in this yearning desire... ;0)

it really is a wonderfully "nice" poem Lydi... glad you shared it...

Was my pleasure dear Lydia and I always enjoy your work.
Love the metaphor here Lydi** just as the summer sun fades when autumn leaves fall, another will capture your thoughts. A sadness detected here. Beautiful work.

The metaphoric mastery here, is you. It is and always will be, you!

Ah, Kelly, you are a good friend. Thank you so much. Lydi**
Captivating as desire is the fire of days spent ... in wisps of silken scarfs and cheeks pink as cotton candy with a dandy who knows how to use the bow and arrow aimed at your ♥️ heart that flowers 💐 in February metaphors.
truly, Pat

Thanks so much, Pat. Your reviews are always colorful! Lydi**
Such metaphoric mastery! How beautifully yet sadly the summer sun fades and with it fade the thoughts of a past love. It's painful even thinking of it. A wonderful poem from you. Appreciated so very much Lydi!

You’re so welcome always, dear Lydi!
reminds me of the Captain and Tenille..."when others turn you off who will be turning you on, i will i will will"

when the love is really real...the emotional and mental will hold up even after the physical winds down ...
