A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by mahood sabzi
on afternoons like this
it's warm enough to quiet heavy thoughts
and steamy enough for a deliverance of the soul
you take liberties with me
but i don't back away
because i love the way you want me
yes, i admit it
i adore the upside down world you showed me
even after i turn it right side up
you see through the latticework facade i created
to confuse the rest of the world
you are not perplexed
instead you are fascinated
and really so am i
on afternoons like this

Great art and poetry meet. Brilliant merging into an eloquent, seductive, elegant write. Lydi, your words paint the geisha face behind the latticework, opening lace curtains to her love. “I love the way you want me”-on a warm and intoxicating ‘afternoon like this’. Your beautiful words and imagery bring us there and we want to stay forever. Kudos!

You are welcome dear Lydia.
I love your title - simple but powerful. Your message seems to be delivered in a topsy-turvy way, going this way & that way, as if two people are literally rolling around together in exploration & delight. It's as if your words are reveling in the sensations (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This opens the door to a touch of magic - or few, Lydi. Super sweet language laid oh so passionately yet -with your usual delightfully subtle words. If one could bottle your kind of love, how happily drunk we'd be!

You always find such appropriate artwork to post with your lines Lydi**. Your afternoons like this, transported me somewhere else. Deliciously so, and I languished there enjoying and remembering some moments of my own. Beautifully penned, such a warm, uplifting write. Thank you.

Your opening and closing lines being the same are the main attraction for me. It's not such an easy thing to do, and I've always admired it in a poem. How wonderful it was, to languish in the warmth of afternoons like this, with poetry and the embellishment of artwork that's always top notch!

So good to have you back, Lydi!

You have a warm and romantic use of a style that is inviting and comfortable to read. Your use of the same line for the beginning and end is nice. It's kind of like a feeling that doesn't stray and remains strong.

a day like this, a love, a friendship, all can be or are a disturbance in the world around us Lydi... it leaves us light headed or giddy, and definitely in a world turned upside down... your poem reminds me of the Diana Ross song "Upside Down"... goes, "upside down boy you turn me, inside out and round an d round"... come on Lydi, time to dance... lol... which of course is my way of saying what a "NICE" poem Lydi...
