there was poetry

there was poetry

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by anna razumovskaya

i dared to dream
but the dream swam off
into the curve in a river
i would never be able to navigate
yes, the dream had its own agenda
then dust gathered
and the wind nearly erased the dream
morphing images of what might have been
then there was you
you stroked those images
as if they were a genie's lamp
resuscitating the dream
bringing it back to life
yes, you
as you walked through my dark alleyways
you illuminated them
and in the sunlight
there was poetry

Love your choice of artwork as always Lydi. The poem flows like everything you put pen to and in this there is a sense of longing, loss and a sort of acceptance as the protagonist appears to have 'missed the boat' of opportunity and then been inspired by someone who appears perhaps less of a certain figure?

Once the words are on the page, it is up to the reader to interpret them, my friend! :) Thank you .. read more
Dreams can be resuscitated. Hopes can be rejuvenated and poetry can be brought back to life. Just needed a caring touch. A bit of magic is what's needed in life and poetry sizzles again. Your words are awesome Ms. Lydi and the chosen artwork never fails to attract.

Thank you very much! Lydi**
what a great last line, Lydi...
I found love in this poem, but I also found the poet who thought the muse was gone---that poetry had become a distant dream...too far away to recapture.
and yet here comes that raft on that river...and lo and behold it is steered by the muse, and is coming home.
