the woman in the mirror

the woman in the mirror

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

dame coloree artmajeur gallery

you followed a fractured road map
to find me
then, after reading the pages of my soul
you did not turn away
instead you led me to a place
i thought i would never see
a place where acceptance
is freely given
a place where being strong
was not a bad thing

never asking for collateral
you were generous
sharing yourself with me
when I was loud
you knew to speak softly
when I was seeing only dark
you gave me multi-colored love
i allowed you to throw away
my many masks
because you showed me
how to finally appreciate
the woman in the mirror

Well. I must say...you are one of the rare few who didn't have the rug pulled out from under them after receiving all those precious gifts. Self-acceptance is hard, as is dealing with the darkness. You expressed your appreciation so well. I am deeply envious!

It's great when someone sees you,
Greater still when someone loves you.

oh .. how deeply touching .. we should all have one such as the "you" in your poem .. too many lines are killer says i ..
"i allowed you to throw away
my many masks" ... sheesh! so good, Lydi .. brilliant poem .. the trust involved and the caring is something that, i think, comes from the divine .. thanks for sharing always

you are dahlink!
Sometimes it does feel that way, when that right person comes along and appreciates us for who we are, what we are and how we are, even if we ourselves couldn't do that before. Beautiful poem about a beautiful feeling.

Always good to find that one who accepts us for who we are ... warts and all.

It sometimes takes a long time to accept ourselves for who we are and even longer to forgive.

Good one Lydi

Oh, I like this one Lydi. How long was that journey before you finally saw the bigger picture of that eternally changing artwork and smiled at it for once?
I for one have never been a fan of looking in the mirror and just assume that the look I'm rocking right now, is shabby chic! But I never did trust looking into my/His eyes much, as I always half expected he had a secret that he wasn't telling me, but now I find it helps immensely, if when meeting his/my eyes to just stick out my/his tongue and smile, before attempting to convince myself, much less anyone else, that the hobo look is in this year! 😊
I think your final lines in this piece show exactly the comfort of a life lived to appreciate the story behind what is the artwork of you in all its glory.
The only flaw I could find was not in the piece itself, but I reckon the lady in the picture you used should fire her make up artist!
Have a wonderful last day of August and May you find smiles aplenty in September too! 😊
