Paint Me Like One of Your French Girls

Paint Me Like One of Your French Girls

A Poem by M.H. Bones
"

"

We signed up for the cruise of joy

The sailors wave and shout, “ahoy!”

For happy times and memories

searching for the remedies

To heal our broken hearts

Dancing on the deck together

Amidst the cold and rainy weather

Swaying wind without a care

Dining fine meals chefs prepare

A carefree existence, you and I

A frigid icecap reared its head

Waking you and I from bed

Its presence boding sweet disaster

The ship kept going, speeding faster

Cruise of joy may end in flames

Captain barking frenzied orders

Bracing down the feeble borders

Imminent disaster looming

All on board afraid, assuming

Our destination freezing depths

The ice cuts deep into the hull

Piercing saber through a skull

Exposing rotting throbbing brain

Once put together now insane

Destiny carved in brittle stone

The lifeboats taken by the few

To sit back and enjoy the view

We take the plunge and greet the ocean

Surrounded by the stark commotion

Left with a plank with room for one

I’ll push you up as I sink down

To save you I would gladly drown

I’ll make friends with schools of fish

To hold you up, my only wish

My heart is weak, but arms are strong

I’ll hold my breath to let you breathe

No matter what I’ll never leave

At least to know that you’re alive

Ascending pulse till you revive

My only goal to keep you floating

I’ll muster every ounce of strength

Protesting muscles at their length

Kicking legs into the sea

“Just eat me now; let her be free!”

The mantra in my mind

Even if my world’s collapsing

At the risk of her relapsing

I’ll hold you up until I’m screaming

Or I descend to endless dreaming

I feel death tugging at my feet

But then you turn and grab my hand

Those gorgeous eyes instill command

Your feet start kicking tuned with mine

Your strength is giving me a sign

I’m not alone in these dark waters

We freeze in sync awaiting rescue

keeping warm I’ll press against you

We both will make it to the light

To breathe again and laugh and fight

As long we just keep on swimming

Demon’s gaze will keep on dimming
