Sky Trap

Sky Trap

A Poem by Mari-Sweet

I ran! I jumped! Up I went and took flight!

I darted through the midnight blue sky

at the speed of being sucked into a black hole.

Suddenly, the sky turned orange and

the atmosphere changed like a movie scene.

I was no longer in my Pleasantville neighborhood.

This isn’t right! Where am I?

I just kept going until--

Oh no! I stopped short when I looked down

and saw flames and a big red dragon.

I turned back and fled the other way.

Phew! I was back in the neighborhood.

But what would have happened if I hadn’t turned back?

Would the dragon have shot up and snatched me?

Or maybe I would have fallen out of the sky

and landed where he could have easily reached me.

And what else was down in that fiery pit?
