CD Rainbow

CD Rainbow

A Poem by Mari-Sweet

I saw a CD lying around and

the lights inside caught my curiosity.

When I took a closer look, a rainbow

appeared slowly showing its colors. These

colors unfolded themselves into layers of

purple, blue, green, orange, and red with a

speck of yellow in between. From a distance,

they’re just Christmas lights without the bulbs

and wires. Looking at the lights made me

wonder what it would feel like to be in that

world.

For this poem, all I needed was a disc

that reflected a rainbow. I found

it in my room. Although it was scratched up

on the outside, who could tell by looking on

the inside? I looked at the colors several times

to get a good picture of the rainbow in my head--

like playing Memory.

Leaning into the disc gave it a

kaleidoscope effect. The colors

kept changing back and forth from

Christmas lights to a rainbow.

I saw two subjects in one and the

last stanza decided to separate the

words and mix them up like this--

C-bow. Rain-D. Stanza number three,

I gotta give you credit for being creative and

coming up with this new idea of describing

the two subjects differently. Thank you kindly.

Playful and well thought out, I love your use of straight flowing words, it lends to the over all piece, well done, good read.
