The Head That Rolled

The Head That Rolled

A Poem by Marina
"

Yes, it's exactly what you think.

"
One day Nora was walking down the street
when her head suddenly fell off
As she reached to pick it up
She kicked it by accident
So it started rolling down the lane
Brown hair becoming tangled
Nora's face a funny impression of horror
While she herself was running behind it
Her hands outstretched trying to catch it
But the head started rolling faster and faster
It hit some rocks
It knocked over a poor little kitten
that was playing with a leaf
It hit a tree and got sidetracked
But didn't stop rolling
Nora was still running
Tripped on the rocks
Stepped on the poor little kitten
Banged her torso on the tree
But didn't stop running
Nora was crying
but she herself couldn't see it
And she was shouting
But she couldn't really hear it
Now the head reached an old dirty alley
Where some kids were playing
They saw the head and got an urge for football
So Nora got scored five times
Before the kids got scared of her body running towards them
So they kicked the head hard and high
It landed on a rooftop
Right next to some clean clothes hanging
Nora climbed the rooftop
Stumbled on the clothes' rope
Good thing she didn't have a head
Else she would have been strangled
Can you imagine?

Many things come to mind, Marina, 'running around like a chicken with its head cut off' or 'you'd lose your head if it wasn't attached' or 'he's in front by a head'. I enjoyed this for the sense of humour in the story. A great idea. Good write.

Thank you Ted! I'm glad it gave you so many different images :D
This has got me thinking. Did you really intend to present it as humor? I find it pretty eerie.
But I guess there are a lot of people who are really trying to catch up with themselves. This poem is a great metaphor.
And the ending..... if she had her head she would have been strangled. We often fail to realize that some of our problems save us from bigger and harsher trials in life.
Maybe I am seeing a lot more in this poem, but it is so different from the ones that I have usually gone through.

I'm sort of thinking here. Bad hair day, poor girl will be distraught that her hair is getting tangled. Not realising, that might be the least of her worries.
I mean, it's not something you see every day, someone chasing their head. Questions need to be asked now. Did the kitten survive. Will the kids recover from this trauma. Did the washing get dirty. But i suppose the real question is. Did Nora get her head back.

The kitten survived but is now limping on its back foot. Permanent damage most likely.
