A Day at the Shore

A Day at the Shore

A Poem by Dave

                  A Day at the Shore

Gentle swells moving slowly to the shore, so blue, dark blue

patches of foam cling to the sandy beach where children play.

Screaming, chasing one another, grabbing for sand crabs to toss.

Hastening to build their sand castle before the incoming tide,

digging out the moat to get its' water to erect their towers.

Splashing in the warm waves, splashing each other in frolic, then

hot sand beneath feet lofting beautiful rainbow colored kites, tails

swirling in the daunting wind, string taut with the tugging, hands

grasping to not lose their grip, pulling harder, letting out more string.

Watching them soaring and dancing far above, wishing we could too.

Since you are a beach lover, you've woven beach themes into many of your poems, but this is the BEST BEACH WRITING I've seen from you! I love the dynamic descriptions & lively verbs you use to paint the scene. To be honest, I love seeing you apply your penchant for "ROMANCE" to something other than women! There are many things to romance in life, besides the opposite sex! This is a really refreshing love affair with the sea! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You paint a lovely picture here Dave of children at play on a sandy beach in the height of summer. Plenty of activity going on it the heat. I was always partial to flying kites. It is written from the perspective of an observer, who would be happy if he could join in. Nicely penned.
