Hazel

Hazel

A Poem by Matthew P. HIll
"

Tibetan Sky Burials.

"
They wouldn't leave without taking,
Every piece of me.
Vultures whom have spread their wings,
And left the dread of my green eyes

Brought my corpse into the thinnest airs,
Leaving far behind the grey comfort...

Of the cemetery.

Waiting for morning to give me praise,
The sky burial you reach your hands towards,
Is where I spend the rest of days.

Dead and overlooking all...
I used to know,
So you should know!

As you stretch out and tear up
I am with you in the sky

Being carried by the vultures

I think it works, actually once it hit me what was going on it all seemed to fall right into place. I see it as the personification of when someone says "he's watching from the stars" but from the person watching's perspective. There is a somewhat dark but not quite that dark undertone. I don't know why I say not quite, it does read very dark and yet to me the poem still has an almost peace like feel to it. Enjoyed reading it.

...
. despite the presence of the vultures, this is a very surreal piece of writing, monsieur ... infinitely poetic, profound, and, sensitive ... beautifully written ... very vivid and captivating ... "sky burial" is an unforgettable expression ...
