Nuclear Reaction

i was listening to Green Day's "Last Night On Earth" when the first line came to me. the fireworks became a nuclear explosion as i watched it. then everything was gone. nothing but these lines remain.

i watched the fireworks from a distance
i was in awe
i wonder if you saw it too
the end of all that we know
i felt the heat peel my skin
as everything around me fell to the ground
the sky lit up like your smile

clouds of mushroom blossom
as we burn away in its shadow
we are part of a nuclear reaction

i felt my tears dry up on my cheeks
i felt so sad
everything is being taken from me

these thousand suns will be gone
stealing the Sun from you

as i became one with the air we breathe
