Come Sail Away

Come Sail Away

A Poem by McEltic

~~~
The pitch o' night her captain feared
her leeward pending doom
November's raging breath
ensnared
to daunting reef she loomed
Her belly shattered
pitched and gorged
as raging swells
reclaim
The drift of break
flew
blizzard cold
~
"Come Sail Away"
is her name
'Come Sail Away'
McEltic,
It seems with boats, ships, sailing crafts-
that they are given the names of ladies
or perceived as such. Names which are
lovingly-carefully painted upon them.
This you have created is one where I
imagine this sail boat has maybe been enjoyed
and cherished as family and friends have fished
or even made money from their labors.
The end of it's usefulness is painted as the tragedy it is.
Like a living thing within "November's raging breath'
Then in next stanza:
Her belly shattered 'pitched and gorged
as raging swells
reclaim
the drift of bread
flew
blizzard cold"
Then the identity and reality sealed with loss and tears...
a very moving tribute to her.
"Come Sail Away" is her name"
Touching piece. I could not help but think of all the people
whom have died in the seas as well
Beautiful and moving to the heart.
Blessings,
Kathy
