Eden

Eden

A Poem by Michael (Letters and Lifelines)

Do you remember those,

We started with?

Boys and girls,

Now lost in this.

We hid ourselves,

Behind our fists-

But we were left here all alone.

We were left without a home.

And here with you,

I pretend I'm calm.

Can you place your hands,

Inside my palms?

And pull me close,

Into your arms-

A place where I can hide.

A place to live and die.

But there,

She goes,

Again.

She's killing me this time.

Her touch,

Her words,

Her grin.

Sending shivers down my spine.

And your hopes,

And dreams,

Have to fill in all the rest.

And she feels,

So good.

But this is such a mess.

Do you remember back,

When we were young?

They promised love,

To everyone.

We still wait around,

For the best to come-

But it might just pass us by.

And if you want to, I will try.

Because these days, they feel,

Like all is lost.

I will carry you out,

If the pain gets worse.

For miles and miles,

Whatever the cost-

Because the world will fall apart,

If I ever decide to start.

But there,

She goes,

Again.

Is she meaning it this time?

Her touch,

Her words,

Her grin.

Sending shivers down my spine.

And your hopes,

And dreams,

Have to fill in all the rest.

And now,

I know,

Dying must be just like this.

When the silent sounds,

Leave you in bed.

Am I the voice,

Inside your head?

Do you hear the words,

I never said?

Or is there someone else,

When you're there all by yourself?

And I prepare for days,

That last forever.

I'll watch you fall,

For someone better.

I'll walk away,

When you're together-

Because-

I've decided now.

I can't do this now.

I've decided now.

This can't happen now.

But I know in time,

You will change my mind.

But by then,

It will be too late,

For me.

If you feel your world,

Come crashing down.

While fireworks,

In the distance sound.

Just feel the pain,

It's all around-

I've felt it all this time.

And it gets stronger every night.

But I still look for stars,

When the night is still.

They remain behind,

The higher hills.

And I'll try to get out,

But I never will-

Because I felt you all this time.

And I can't be without you one more night.

Don't go.

Please stay.

I need you now.

Can you be with me?

Don't go.

Please stay.

I want you now.

Can you breathe in me?

Don't go.

Please stay.

I need you now.

Just whisper to me.

Don't go.

Please stay.

I want you now.

Just move closer to me.

Don't go.

Please stay.

I need you now.

Just keep grazing me.

Don't go.

Please stay.

I want you now.

Just keep touching me.

Don't go.

Please stay.

I can't lose you now.

Oh God.

I won't lose you now.

You are welcome...:)...........
I really enjoyed this. The hopes and dreams, feeling like all is lost... Very much relatable...

"Or is there someone else,/When you're there all by yourself?" (Another excellent set of lines.)

"Don't go/Please stay." (I loved the ending. So simple and so plaintive.)

I think it was Ernest Hemingway that questioned (of another author): "Does he really thing big emotions come from big words?" You've achieved great depth here, without resorting to thesaurus pecking.

I like the way you led the reader into deep thoughts and places. We are taught to be kind, treat people with respect and somewhere the desire of kindness is forgotten. Love support be kind and painless. Old age had taught me to hold silence when I have nothing good to say. I did like the closing lines. Better to beg for forgiveness and hold on tight. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
