But just once more ...

But just once more ...

A Poem by Michelle Lauren
"

Ode to a child ...

"
I wish I could wish, but just once more
I wish I could pray, but just once more
To hear her thoughts, but just once more
To share her smile, but just once more

She left with a note, not a single word spoken
Only misguided dolor, judgmental emotion
I now hear my prayer I wish to pray
I pray for her presence and hope for her stay

A very touching poem that felt so meaningful and like you put thought into each and every word. Your poems have a certain kind of thing that’s so nice to read about them, and it’s very amplified here!

No problem, it was my pleasure (:
Since I just read another poem that you identified as being about a suicide that's near to you, I'll assume this poem is of the same topic. I love what you've done here becuz you begin by expressing something we all are hit by when death occurs -- thinking we should delve into life more deeply. Even tho your first stanza is literally about the one who committed suicide, it could also be about the narrator, in a more general sense, regretting all the ways we all walk right by stuff in life without it even registering, without paying attention, without seeing what's right in front of us. It's hard to fathom what this experience must be like for you, but you express yourself with simple drama-free intensity, which I love (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This touched me. How or why - you might ask? Being human means living. Living means experiencing our realities. And some of us even survive them - whether we want to or not. As an aside - most parents never know how wrongly, thoughtlessly, uncaring, and with intent cruelty and meannesses that we manage and control the lives of and just don't "understand" our children until they tell us over and over and over again when they reach teenhood (mentally at least) - and sometime the parents survive and sometimes the children survive as well (only to be reminded of the same thing by their children).
