Mr Dunne Murders Poets For Fun

Mr Dunne Murders Poets For Fun

A Poem by The Elusive Mr Dunne

"Mr Dunne Murders Poets For Fun"

I wandered lonely, lonely as a cloud/
Were the last words of that poet, before I took him the f*** out
If music be the food of love, then play on/
Was what Shakespear had muttered, before I slayed the strange mong
Hold on and stay strong, is what Tupac had said/
He got to live cause I liked him, but the others wanted him dead
We loved with a love, that was more than love/
Is what Edgar Poe had wrote, shortly before I bodied that mug
There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met/
Was the last quote from Yeats, before I had to take off his head
The truth is rarely pure and never simple/
Is what Oscar Wilde had said, before I put a bullet in his temple
The things which I have seen, I now can see no more/
Is what Wordsworth mumbled, lying dead on the floor
Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind/
Were the last words from Kipling, before I killed him with mine.

I had overprepared the event is what Pound said
before I took my Pound of flesh.

Clever and engaging write. Unfortunately, Munn rhymes with gun; however, if one must be a genuine poet, I get to sleep easy tonight.

I like the style, the rhyme and the incredible content of this poem... very clever that you quoted dead poets and then killed them again with your amazing skill and imagination.....You are full of knowledge.....
Thank you for sharing.
Best, B.

And as I awoke,
there I was
dangling like a puppet from strings of rhyme.
Each verse was tied by my would-be victims,
each one laughing with a sinister chuckle
while saying,
"We will live forever!"
Then the great black bird called out,
"Nevermore" as I melted into the mountains of the moon. --- Too soon.
You are right, words can change almost anything. :)

Really interesting concept here. Each pair of lines follows the same formula, with no explanation given as to how this character is able to travel across time to take them all out. But the poem is just so fun to read that you don't care about the logic. I particularly love the opening and ending lines; the former because they don't specify which poet it is, and the latter because it's even more unclear about how the death played out (compared to the other murder lines). I also got a good chuckle out of the Tupac death line, in addition to the fact that he's the only modern/musical entry on the list.

Overall, nice job. Keep up the good work!
